Soapbox
- G4ISJ - Well I did participate in the ATS sprint even if conditions were lousy, it was the small hours of the morning, and it was pitch black at the top of our local SOTA summit. Operation was portable from SOTA Summit G/E-001, Cleeve Hill. I ran both my ATS4 and MTR into an EFHW antenna for 20Metres. This was set vertically on an 8M roach pole seured to a convenient fence post. Power was supplied by an 8 AA NiMh Battery pack giving about 10V over the sprint and estimated power out of approx 3 to 4 watts (no power measuring equipment in my portable pack!). I tried both 20M and later 40M but 40 proved fruitless although I could hear K4BAI who was undoubtedly the loudest and most consistent signal with me all night.
- K4BAI - 20 and 40 were pretty good. Called CQ several times on 80 and heard no Sprint activity there. Enjoyed the Sprint, but wish there had been more activity. I had to QRT about 20 minutes before the end of the period.
- WC7S - WOW.. was that a kick! What fun. And the rtty did bother much.. what did was just as expected. Had a grand time and hope we can do it again. It would be a real kick to do this like every month.. or every quarter???
- K0JQZ - I attached a photo from the park. I only operated 1 hour (battery went dead) or so but it was nice for the XYL and I to walk down to the local park and operate a little. I used a ATS4b and end fed wire antenna up about 40 feet. I forgot to re-charge my batteries after my last SOTA outing so power was down and dropped a lot more after calling CQ an excessive amount of times. Condx were shaky at best, I would hear a few stations and the next minute the band was dead. I was worried about the RTTY contest going on but I guess those guys figured the band was not good enough hi hi. I only had a 20 meter antenna but listened to 40 a bit and heard RTTY more than CW so I just packed it up. We had a good time regardless since we had nice shade and no one around. Thanks for putting this together. I did not know if I would be able to operate until the last minute but was glad I did. See you again next year.
- AA4GA - Well, to say the condx were poor would be putting it mildly! I was only able to eke out one 40m QSO, but I look at it like this: I can only get better from here! CU all next time!
